The Beats by Dre Social Experiment - Are They Actually Good?
How's it going there, guys? I'm Quinn of snazzy labs, and I'm joined here with Omar of geek store Labs What's up guys? how's it going and we're here at the The University of Utah was actually in homer's all Mars visiting me, which is pretty sweet yes yes and for the first time for the first time hopefully not the last right, and we're here to do a We've done a couple of experiments, as you guys know. very well what we think about beats by dre that there are a little over price that they don't sound that great, but we don't really know what the average consumer thinks about them, that's right. So we're going to do a couple experiments. today to see what the average person that we're just gonna walk around we're on campus right now and in Utah, so we're talking a couple students we're on a couple different experiments One of the experiments is we're actually gonna blindfold them and let them hit listen to a pair of beat studios and listen to a pair of Philips Uptown and see what they pick, and then after we do a couple of those experiments, we'll do a couple lay them actually see the pair of headphones that they're testing out just to see what the same I wonder if we can hear you.
And which one did you like better, the second one, and why does that seem like don't know that city was a tinny right Well, which one do you think was which? we got a pair of beat studios here and We've got a pair of Philips uptown. I hope that they were the Philips. All right, Devon So what is the consensus? What do you think? Which one did you like? the first the second sure okay so the first one you like It sounded like it had more clarity to it the first one yeah the first one like there was a lot more like when the base hit it was like really good hmm the second one like when The base was just as good, but I liked it. was kind of teeny, you know, and also like the Trib was kind of high okay So between the two, which one do you think you'd prefer I'm probably number one. interesting from the back for me too. So which pair of headphones do you think was the first pair that you liked, and which is one I don't know a pair of beats by dre headphones when we got some Phillips headphones What do you think is the first pair that you enjoyed listening to What do you think? It's probably Philips.
listen to the beats beats Wow, okay, well We'll show you the two headphones that we were using, and we want you to tell us What you thought was probably the one that was, from which I would guess that the beats were first, the beats were first, and why would you guess that because the bigger Your phone makes me think it's going to a little bit bigger sound good reasoning right does felt like smaller on my ear Well, believe it or not, the second pair of headphones, the ones that you prefer to wear in fact the beats by dre oh yeah Interesting, huh? There's quite a bit of price difference for the hundred dollar difference not $100 different yeah Alright, well, hey, thank you so much, man. for your time. as far as all your party business Did you like Okay, which one do you prefer? I like the beats because I think it picks up the low-level ranges a little bit better than the mids. and lows whereas the Eternity tells Everything was high, like I had some high pitches. better and so firstly I like that sort of low range little bit better plus the way I wear my headphones I wear hats. lots of the cups fit me a lot better and that's big on me but you know the same thing for me two cups on this on my it felt like there was a lot of background I so sleep it into it that's a lot better Wow, what exactly makes you think that? What's the differentiation there? I don't I know I didn't touch the volume at all.
but these
ones just had a lot more crisps down in the base like I'm not a headphone kind
of story: here's the funny part These ones cost $299, right? 300 bucks quite a
bit of money for a pair of phones yeah and those ones cost 150 bucks I've heard
a lot about these good stuff or bad stuff lots of good stuff it stops but you
got the beat stuff but if I um you know I they were both really I think this
would have more clarity. sound, but
not as much as bass, put an S, so
a lot of my music is kind of does a little bit more bass, so it kind of of
really pulls out more flow; those are kind of a little bit better to me just for
the specific music I was listening to to if it was more maybe classical music Maybe
I would take that and these ones. oh yeah And
you see, I look for headphones that don't alter the music themselves, I think. These ones actually
have some kind of because the music sounded different on the Philips, so my preference
would be The break would be to do before yes so in conclusion what Did we
identify it? It's pretty obvious. that I think
noise cancellation is probably a bigger issue when it comes to the audio
quality because most of the
